How to Make Bow fisherman Econo-light Fixtures more efficient
Many Bow-Fishermen rectify their transformers and lamps of their 150-Watt HPS high reactance ballast to a high power factor fixture.
The capacitor used to change the 150-Watt HPS high reactance ballast to a high power factor fixture is the 55uf-240V High Pressure Sodium Capacitor.
By doing this, amp usage is cut almost in half from the original fixture without the additional capacitor. Modifying the fixture also corrects power factor which helps the generators handle the load easier, allowing up to 10 fixtures per 2000-Watt generator.
On the right is a wiring diagram depicting how to wire the fixture when using the 55uf-240V High Pressure Sodium Capacitor.
